The Draft Alaska State Rail Plan has arrived. Haines rail to Carmacks is mentioned in several places. The Alaska State Rail Plan is a document looking ahead 20 years that gets filed with the United States government so they can plan on what the rail needs are. This is a great step forward for us. This is a result of Haines Port Development Council LLC. Being part of the Alaska State Rail Plan Technical Advisory Group. Being part of the group was a help getting the Haines Rail Study done. The Haines Rail Study is on our web site; www.hainesyukonrail.com .
Haines Port Development Council LLC. Working TOGETHER with our regional neighbors. We are honored to have been invited to the luncheon meeting put on by Yukon First Nation Chamber of Commerce & Yukon Government Energy, Mines and Resources ministry.
The meeting was held at the High Country Inn, Whitehorse on Thursday June 25.
Jim Bell and Yukon Government have expressed an interest in meeting with the First Nation Development Corps to discuss the focus of Yukon Mineral Development Strategy for the Yukon and we feel this would be valuable for all to provide our input.
The meeting / luncheon was a great time to join our neighbors looking to the future of the regional minerals industry. Several Yukon First Nations groups attended along with Yukon government representatives and Haines Port Development Council LLC.
The overwhelming discussion was to work TOGETHER. How refreshing to meet such a nice group all looking to work together.
We all realize that the regional minerals industry is at a low period. This gives the opportunity to work together on ways to help the industry and develop infrastructure so as to be ready when the market returns. The group was very happy to hear the Haines highway is scheduled to be up graded and the Chilkat River bridge replaced so that there will be a second route out of Yukon for heavy freight.
