Chief Executive Officer


Yak-Tat Kwaan is looking for a talented CEO who wants to be an active leader in a culturally rich community. The successful candidate will manage five distinct subsidiary business lines; collaborate with Board on strategic planning; effectively execute business plan to enhance financial health of the corporation; maintain transparency and open lines of communication with the Board; develop organization/staff; support the company's mission, and interact in positive manner with all shareholders and stakeholders.
Yak-Tat Kwaan is dedicated to enhancing opportunities for shareholders, being responsive and responsible to shareholders, owning and controlling its lands in perpetuity, protecting and enhancing the Tlingit culture and providing leadership to the Yakutat region. In addition to maintaining profitable businesses, the Kwaan Board of Directors is deeply concerned with mitigating the hardships of life in rural Alaska and creating a sustainable way of life. The community of Yakutat possesses an abundance of resources and maintains a traditional way of life in many respects. Yak-Tat Kwaan’s approach to business mirrors the values of the community. 
Position Requirements
The Yak-Tat Kwaan Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides overall executive leadership for the corporation in accordance with the objectives, policies and directives set by the Board of Directors. Successful attributes include: (1) demonstration of effective leadership in a similar role; (2) superior communication and interpersonal skills with history of transparency regarding business activities; (3) strong writing and presentation skills; (4) professional demeanor; (5) demonstrated ability to execute strategic plan and achieve business objectives; (6) experience reporting to a board of directors and clear understanding of appropriate board/CEO roles (7) cross-cultural experience, understanding of ANCSA and Alaska Native values (8) staff development and mentoring; (9) corporate financial management experience; (10) organization development; (11) strategic planning and analysis; (12) community engagement with history of participating in business/community activities and acting as public representative for a corporation or organization; and (13) profitable business management: have profitably managed diverse business lines with experience in property management/real estate, IT, resource development, mariculture and alternative energy very helpful.

Experience/Education
Must have at least 5-7 years of management experience in a business or organization with oversight and responsibility for multiple business lines, projects or deliverables. Bachelor's degree preferred; will substitute equivalent related work experience. Experience reporting to a board of directors preferred. ANCSA experience extremely helpful. Need to be computer literate and comfortable using standard business software, e.g. MS Office. Must be able to perform duties outlined above. Some travel required. Must be willing to work primarily out of Yakutat, Alaska. Salary DOE.  Position open until filled.
